NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Former Grizzlies star Tony Allen has been inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in the 2025 class.
“Tony Allen represented an era of grit and grind for the Memphis Grizzlies,” said Brad Willis, executive director of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. “He left his mark on the Grizzlies franchise and the entire NBA, and we are very excited to have him as a member of the 2025 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.”
Allen, a Chicago native, was named Player of the Year at Oklahoma State University before being selected by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2004 NBA Draft. He won a championship with the Celtics in 2008 and signed with the Grizzlies during the 2010 offseason.
During his time with the Grizzlies, Allen emerged as a defensive player and was named to the league’s All-Defensive First Team in 2012, 2013, and 2015. Allen’s legacy as one of the most popular players in Grizzlies history, earning him the nickname “Grindfather” from teammates and fans, led to him being retired from the team’s All-Defensive Second Team in 2011, 2016, and 2017.
