{KXLG – Waverly, SD} Waverly South Shore High School’s electronic sports team made a prominent debut at the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA) approved state E-Sports Championship tournament held on past Fridays and Saturdays It has been fulfilled. Kyler Salisbury, Cobain Mays and Kale Heuer competed in the Rocket League, with Christian Waldner, Savannah Fiedler, Lucas Johnson and Matthew Meyer competing in the Minnecraft Bed Wars. Austin Olson coached both teams.
The Minecraft-Bed Wars team achieved a state-worthy fourth-place finish. After competing in the final, the team faced tough competition, losing to final state runner-up Aberdeen Central in the first round and then to Sioux Falls O’Gorman in the third place match. Team performance, especially performance against large schools, has achieved great results in the first year of competition.
“It’s an incredible achievement for the team to finish fourth in the state in the first year of competition, especially when they faced some of the state’s biggest schools in the final,” South Shore School and ECC Conference President.
