A delegation from the Scottish Highlands’ leading golf club and hotel group will head to the PGA Show in the US next week to showcase all that the region has to offer.
The PGA Show, held January 21-24 in Orlando, Florida, will draw a large crowd of golf professionals and tour operators from the PGA of America.
This year, under the umbrella of VisitScotland, representatives from Royal Dornoch Golf Club, Nairn Golf Club, Cabot Highlands in Inverness and the Kingsmills Hotel in the Highland capital will carry the region’s flag. I will raise it.
Golf tourism generates over £300 million each year for the Scottish economy, with visitors from the United States in particular being a key driver of the growth sector in the north of Scotland.
Neil Hampton, general manager of Royal Dornoch, who attended his first PGA Show in 2012, said: “Golf is so important to the local economy and this trade show provides an unparalleled platform to promote all that we have to offer here in the Highlands.”
Neil and club captain Gary Bethune will be accompanied by Nairn General Manager Paul Mills, Cabot Highlands Director of Golf and Operations Jeremy Matt and Kingsmills Hotel Group Sales Manager Tracy Milton do.
“The Highland Golf Links Group is working collaboratively to promote the region. The U.S. tourist market has been strong in the years following the pandemic, but we cannot afford to let up on the gas.” Neal said. “All major golfing countries, including Ireland and Mexico, as well as links courses in England and Wales, will be represented in Orlando and Scotland, with the aim of attracting golfers from across the Atlantic to our country’s ‘home of golf’ status. You cannot simply rely on your position.
“This is a highly competitive field and PGA Golf Professionals and Tour Operators can influence the future of golf groups. “Scotland and the Highlands will ensure they have a fair share of this lucrative market.” You need to actively work to do so.
“This year, Royal Dornoch will be touting its long-awaited new clubhouse and changes made to the Struly course, which are on track for a soft opening later this year. Cabot Highlands will be previewing in the summer – Look out for the new Old Petty course opening for play, which will be a great addition to Castle Stuart Golf Links in the future.
“We are a close-knit group when it comes to promoting golf in the Highlands and it’s great to have Cabot Highlands, a major international brand, joining us at the Highland Golf Links stand this year.
“This area has so much to offer, including golf, great accommodations and restaurants, history, wildlife, and stunning scenery. As well as world-class courses, there are also many lesser-known courses and memories to be made.” That’s the message we’re promoting to Orlando residents both new and old.
