As 2024 draws to a close, EcoBunker, the industry-leading innovator in synthetic bunker wall technology, is celebrating 10 years in business supporting the rapidly evolving golf industry.
Launched in 2014 with an infusion of capital and a reliable supply chain, founder Richard Allen has put the invention he created five years ago into a sustainable business that he believed was possible. We were able to grow it into a viable business.
Since then, EcoBunker has become a hugely successful international business and has been involved in hundreds of projects covering all major golf disciplines.
“It’s been an amazing 10 years. Thank you to all the courses, designers, and golf industry experts. We would not be in business without them,” Allen said. “Challenging the traditional way of doing things is a very difficult task, so I will always be grateful to everyone who believed in us and what we were trying to achieve.”
Key milestones over the past decade include the development of EcoBunker Advanced, a cement-modified backfill technology that has cut EcoBunker’s shipping weight in half and enabled it to grow its international business. Two additional technologies, EcoTec bunker liner and AquaEdge synthetic water edging design. And recently, EcoBunker’s investment in its own production facility gives it greater control over R&D and product testing, a process that is already producing the next generation of EcoBunker Advanced, which will be ready for mass production by the end of the year. It’s scheduled to be fixed.
“When we invented synthetic bunker edging technology, we knew it had the potential to change the game,” Allen says. “We are able to reduce maintenance costs, quadruple the lifespan of seawall bunkers, and provide visually stunning additions to golf courses that continue to provide golfers with a great experience year after year. I’m extremely proud of everything we’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see where we go in the next 10 years.”
The next chapter for EcoBunker is already taking shape with the launch of next-generation EcoBunker Advanced technology that reduces installation costs and increases the strength of bunker walls. And with the next generation of products already in the research and development stage, the future looks very bright for EcoBunker.
