Few leaders understand the impact AI is already having on the labor market better than Glassdoor CEO Christian Sutherland-Wong. Speaking at Fortune’s Global Forum in New York on Tuesday, he shared his thoughts on how he thinks AI will replace and create new positions.
Unsurprisingly, AI is driving a boom in technology-based roles. But it is destroying the creative writing profession, a profession that was previously only available to humans.
“I think ML (machine learning engineers), data scientists, and people in the broader AI science field are the most popular roles,” Sutherland-Wong says. “While these roles have been around for some time, they are still in the highest demand and limited supply.”
Computer-based jobs may be on the rise, but other jobs are disappearing. Sutherland-Wong said she’s noticed one role in particular disappearing from job boards.
“Interestingly, copywriter jobs and job openings have declined in recent years since generative AI became popular,” he says. “This kind of trend speaks to how the economy and jobs will change as AI becomes a really big thing in our economy.”
