These rankings comprehensively evaluate the nation’s roughly 1,500 four-year, bachelor’s degree-granting institutions and categorize them into different groups based on the institutions’ academic missions.

Following Emory University is Georgia Tech, also located in Atlanta, ranked 33rd in the country. Georgia Tech’s focus on cutting-edge research and innovation has made it one of the top engineering and technology universities in the country.
UGA ranks high in U.S. News’ Best Colleges rankings
The University of Georgia in Athens sits alongside other notable universities at number 46. One of the oldest public universities in the United States, the University of Georgia is highly regarded for its rich history and diverse academic programs.
Topping the U.S. News list of best American universities is Princeton University, followed by MIT, Harvard, Stanford and Yale.

U.S. News categorized universities into 10 distinct overall rankings to compare schools with similar academic missions. Categories include national universities, national liberal arts universities, regional universities and regional colleges, each of which is further subdivided by geographic region.
