Genesis is preparing to launch its new ultra-luxury electric SUV, the GV90. We’re learning more about what we can expect from the flagship SUV after the first prototype was spotted near Hyundai’s facility.
In March, Genesis announced the Neolun concept, which is a preview of its next full-size SUV. The SUV will serve as a beacon of technology as Genesis aims to take on new heights and challenge ultra-luxury brands such as Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
The concept is “reductive design”, which gives a clean and minimalist impression. One of the standout features is the connected two-tone headlamps in the shape of the iconic Genesis crest grille.
Genesis also included a bus door. With the B-pillar removed, this electric SUV has a sleek, premium look.
The interior, on the other hand, is fit for royalty. Opening the bus door reveals electric side steps that deploy automatically. The interior seats rotate, creating a flexible and spacious interior.
The SUV also includes an immersive, almost “concert hall-like” audio experience with each speaker strategically placed.
Genesis GV90 launched as a new ultra-luxury SUV
A huge 24.6-inch infotainment screen can be adjusted or integrated into the dashboard. The Genesis was also equipped with an “Ondol” heating system, which is based on the Korean underfloor heating system. Genesis says it helps improve heating efficiency while providing a lounge-like experience.
This summer, reports emerged from South Korea claiming that the first GV90 prototype would be built in October. According to TheKoreanCarBlog, the first prototype has already been spotted outside Hyundai’s research and development facility in South Korea.
Genesis is preparing to launch two models: Standard trim and Exclusive trim. The standard model will be equipped with standard doors, while the Exclusive trim is expected to retain the concept’s coach doors.
Genesis aims to move up the ranks of luxury cars, so exclusive models will be limited to only a few units. It is expected to rival the best-selling large luxury SUVs such as the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class and Bentley Bentayga.
According to reports, Genesis is finishing development of a production prototype after overcoming problems with the coach door. Hyundai’s research and development facility has reportedly resolved the issue and the GV90 prototype is ready for testing on public roads.
