Glenwood Springs (2-1) played Northridge High School from Greeley on Saturday morning, with the Demons coming away with a 44-29 victory for their second straight game.
Basalt, ranked 10th in Class 2A, won a close game early in the second half to beat the Rifle Bears (0-2) 42-12 at Rifle. Basalt hosts Glenwood Springs on Friday night in what will be the Valley’s biggest game.
“We came into this game with the mindset of getting better and better every day,” Glenwood head coach Mike West said. “Our team has practiced hard and we’re looking forward to having a good week of practice before facing a very talented and well-coached team from Basalt.”
Yuma made the long trip west to beat Roaring Fork, 50-7, and the Rams (1-1) will host Del Norte on Saturday afternoon.
Cole Ridge (1-1) went on the road and picked up a big 47-28 win at Cedar Edge on Friday night, and the Titans will host the Grand Valley Cardinals under the lights this Friday.

After a 6-0 loss to Battle Mountain last Tuesday, Glenwood (2-1-1) doesn’t play again until Sept. 17 when it faces Eagle Valley in another tough conference match.
Roaring Fork improved to 1-1 on the season with a dominant 7-0 win at Basalt last Thursday. The Rams’ next opponent is just down the interstate against unbeaten Rifle (3-0) on Thursday.
On Friday, Coleridge (2-2) beat Denver School of Science and Technology in a tough 3-2 victory. On Saturday, the Titans played their first road game of the season at Kent Denver, losing 3-0. Coleridge’s next opponent is Tuesday on the road to Grand Junction Central before traveling to Peach Valley.
Grand Valley (0-4) lost 6-0 at Gunnison on Saturday afternoon and the team is scheduled to visit Moffat County at Craig on Tuesday.

Roaring Fork (2-5) got off to a strong start last Thursday against rival Basalt in Carbondale, but the Longhorns have bounced back and won their final three games by close margins to post a 3-1 record. The Rams return to host the Grand Junction Tigers at home again on Thursday night.
Glenwood (5-1) won each game by close margins but came away with a 3-0 win over St. Mary’s Academy on Saturday afternoon at Chavez Spencer Gym. The Demons will travel to Aspen on Tuesday.
Grand Valley (3-5) lost a 3-0 home game against unbeaten Gunnison on Thursday. The Cardinals play at DeBec on Tuesday.
Cole Ridge (2-6) lost 3-0 to state-ranked No. 6 Cedar Edge on Thursday night. The Titans will host Delta on Tuesday.
Rifle was off for the weekend. The Bears’ next game is Sept. 17 at Glenwood.
Softball
Rifle (5-6) has had a busy week on the diamond. The Bears suffered a home conference loss to Palisade, 6-4, last Tuesday. On Friday, Rifle lost to Frederick, 16-1, before handily beating Air Academy, 12-2. On Saturday, the Bears lost both games, narrowly losing to Berthoud, 13-2, and Rocky Mountain, 16-14. Rifle travels to Eagle Valley to take on the Devils on Tuesday.
cross country
Glenwood and Rifle competed in the Eagle Valley Invitational Meet held at Siena Valley Golf Club on Saturday. The Glenwood girls placed 11th as a team, with senior Quinn Wahler leading the way in 25th place overall with a time of 22 minutes, 33 seconds. Freshman Eva Hassell was 93rd overall in 26 minutes, 58 seconds. Anna Robinson also had a standout performance for the Rifle Bears, taking seventh place with a time of 21 minutes, 7 seconds.
The Summit girls dominated the Eagle Invite with all seven runners placing in the top 20 for a team score of 31 points. The Demon boys placed seventh in the meet. Finn Long led the way with a time of 18:52 (16th overall), followed by Tanner Merritt in 19:12 (23rd), Ezra Gotsha in 21:05 (50th), Elijah Meyer in 21:12 (51st) and Winslow Proctor in 22:52 (61st). Summit also dominated the boys’ division with all runners placing in the top 18 for a team score of 28 points. The top five runners from each team count toward the score.
Glenwood’s team will compete at the Liberty Bell tournament in Denver on Saturday, then host a local tournament on Sept. 21 at CMC’s Spring Valley campus.
