The featured game of the week was Glenwood (2-2) traveling up Highway 82 to take on the unbeaten Basalt Longhorns. A dominant showing, the Longhorns (3-0) defeated the Demons, 35-7, and won Valley pride. Will Daniel led Basalt with three touchdowns while Mason Markovich had 128 yards on 24 carries for Glenwood. Basalt has won each of the past four meetings against Glenwood.
Rifle (0-3) hosted Delta on Friday night, a game the Bears lost 49-0. Things aren’t getting any easier for Rifle, as the Bears host the No. 1 team in Class 3A, the Roosevelt Roughriders, on Friday night at Bears Stadium.
Coleridge (2-1) and Grand Valley (0-2) met Friday night on the Titans’ home field with Coleridge winning handily, 43-0. Coleridge’s next matchup is a road trip to Fort Lupton on Friday night.
The Roaring Fork Rams (2-1) won last week without ever sitting out a game. Del Norte withdrew from Saturday afternoon’s game. The Rams visit Prospect Ridge Academy in Denver on Saturday.
volleyball
The Glenwood Demons (6-1), ranked seventh in Class 4A, defeated the Aspen Skiers 3-1 last Tuesday on the road. Glenwood’s statistical leaders were Emma Gabrell and Kaylee Molina with 12 kills each. Amanda Madden had 28 assists and Gianna Zambrano and Allison Fuentes-Perez contributed 15 digs each. The Demons will host rival Rifle on Tuesday.
Cole Ridge (2-7) lost 3-2 at home to Delta on Tuesday. The Titans next play is a trip to Carbondale to take on Roaring Fork on Thursday.
Grand Valley (3-7) lost 3-1 to Devec on Tuesday and 3-1 on the road to Aspen on Thursday.
Roaring Fork (2-6) is coming off a 3-0 loss at home to Grand Junction on Thursday, and the Rams will be hoping to regain some much-needed momentum when they open 3A WSL play Thursday night when Cole Ridge visits Carbondale.

Coleridge (3-1) beat GJ Central on Tuesday at Peach Valley and will play at Delta on Thursday.
Glenwood (2-1-1) had no games over the weekend and is scheduled to travel to Eagle Valley on Tuesday.
Roaring Fork (2-1) knocked the Rifle Bears (3-1) off the unbeaten list with a close 2-1 victory Thursday on the Bears’ home field. The Rams play Steamboat on Tuesday, and Rifle plays Fruita Monument on Tuesday.
Grand Valley (1-3) earned its first win of the season last Tuesday with a 4-2 victory at Moffat County. The Cardinals will face Caprock Academy of Grand Junction this Tuesday.
Softball
Rifle (6-7, 2-1 WSL) lost a road game at Eagle Valley, 4-3, on Tuesday. On Thursday, the Bears hosted Battle Mountain and posted a commanding 14-2 victory. Rifle’s next opponent is at home against Meeker on Wednesday afternoon.

The Rifle Bears traveled last week to the Sailor Invite in Steamboat on Monday and the Moffat County Invitational on Tuesday. On Monday, the Bears finished fifth on the team with Remington DeCrow scoring 77 points. Josh Shanks (80), Andrew Pulser (81), Waylon Punter (86) and Connor Hayes (104) rounded out the rifle scoring. At Craig, rifle finished seventh. Shanks (84), Pulser (84), Punter (91), DeCrow (95) and Hayes (103) again led the Bears in points.
cross country
Coleridge hosted a home meet in New Castle on Friday morning where both the boys and girls teams took first place. Earning 57 points as a team, the Lady Titans were paced by sophomore Effie Fletcher, who took second place with a time of 18 minutes, 55 seconds. Other points earners for Coleridge were Hailey Whitman (10th, 21:29), Faye Goodman (14th, 21:53), Riley Hedberg (18th, 22:26) and Dani Kurt (21st, 23:04).
Rifle High School senior Anna Robinson again had a solid performance for the Bears, finishing fifth overall in 20:05. Rifle High School sophomores Simone Maness (27:47) and Olivia Heisig (28:41) also had strong performances for the Bears.
The Coleridge boys earned 48 points, narrowly beating runner-up Moffat County. Titans junior Jake Kurt was third overall with a time of 17:36. Freshmen Brody Evans (4th, 17:44), Owen Evans (9th, 18:24), Kevin Parker (12th, 18:33) and Jackson Shinn (30th, 20:17) rounded out the scoring for Coleridge.
In the middle school division, the Glenwood Cougars girls took second place overall, led by Josie Ravenschlag in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 11 minutes, 54 seconds. Glenwood Springs Middle School’s boys were paced by sixth-grader Devonte Thompson (12 minutes, 48 seconds), who took fifth place.
Glenwood High School competed in the Liberty Bell Cross Country 5k meet in Denver on Saturday for both boys and girls. Top finishers for the Demon girls were Quinn Wahler (20:44 seconds), Eva Hassell (24:07), Allison West (25:29), Kayla McCaslin (29:12) and Sophia Virden (29:23). For the boys were Finn Long (18:04), Tanner Merritt (18:06), Ty Hesse (18:20), Eli Meyer (18:56) and Ezra Gotsha (19:26). Glenwood High School will host its home meet this Saturday at CMC’s Spring Valley campus.
