French fashion company Chanel will sponsor Britain’s historic boat race between Oxford and Cambridge Universities from 2025, marking its first foray into the sport.
The event will officially change to the Chanel J12 Boat Race next year, after the company’s luxury watch.
Chanel will replace cryptocurrency firm Gemini as race sponsor and will also become official timekeeper in a deal that is said to run until at least 2029.
It will be the 200th anniversary of the first men’s race.
One of Britain’s oldest sporting events, the annual race between Britain’s two oldest universities is held on a 4.25-mile (7-kilometre) course along the River Thames in London.
The 2025 race will be held on April 13th.
