Our team loves Orangetheory Fitness!
Orange Theory Fitness has studios all over the country, so there’s probably one near you (Bryn trains in Boise, ID, and former hip sidekick Erica trains in Lakewood Ranch, FL). .
Each one-hour class is a fun combination of cardio and strength training. Everyone can enjoy it, regardless of fitness level or age. You can enjoy walking, jogging, running, cycling, etc. at your own pace.
Base – Push – All Out – GO! GO! go!
On the treadmill, you push yourself to different levels. These levels are called “Base”, “Push” and “All Out”. Don’t you think it’s difficult to understand? This is not the case as the instructor is teaching the whole time.
Basics – Jogging or walking up a hill (heart rate increases). Push – You are moving to the next level (trying to reach the orange zone). All Out – Going all out (this is rarely longer than 1 minute, the goal is to be red/orange halfway through All Out).
Each participant must wear an Orange Theory Fitness heart rate monitor. It’s a wristband like the photo above.
Real-time heart rate and several other parameters such as calories burned and heart rate zones are all displayed on large screens throughout the studio.
It may seem a little strange to see your results for everyone to see, but trust me, it’s not. You’re not the only one keeping an eye on your score. So is everyone else!
The Orange Theory Fitness app (available on Google Play and iTunes) also makes it easy to track your stats every time. The app tracks all your workouts, so you can easily see your progress.
From the app, you can also view class history and upcoming class schedules, find at-home workouts, and purchase gear.
The number of machines in each studio varies, but we have approximately 12 top-notch treadmills (we tried them all and they were awesome!), 12 water rowing machines, 12 suspension unit systems, free weights and benches. There is. We can accommodate groups of 10 to 36 people. Don’t worry if you can’t run, walk, or row. There are also bike and strider options.
In each class at Orange Theory Fitness, the goal is to complete at least 12 minutes in zones 4 and 5 (orange and red zones) combined (also known as splat points). These points are typically earned during the treadmill training portion of your workout.
Orange Theory Fitness is always pushing you to the next level. You’ll go home proud of yourself for doing something you never thought you could do. 🙌
(Bryn convinced Colin to take a free introductory class)
So why do we love Orangetheory Fitness so much?
First of all, it works! I almost always burn more than 500 calories in a one-hour class. Continue to burn calories for up to 36 hours thanks to the afterburn concept. 🙌
Second, every day is different! Never repeat a workout. Therefore, you will be changing the combination of treadmill, rowing, and weights every day.
And guess what? Everyone I’ve met here is here to get a super intense workout done in just 60 minutes. No distractions, pure focus and results. It’s well worth your time. All classes start and end on time, so you can attend, finish, and return to your daily routine without any hassle.
There is time for everyone. In Boise, weekday classes begin at 5 a.m. and continue until 6:45 p.m. Some locations may be open until later! Booking classes is also super easy as you can schedule them directly from the Orangetheory Fitness app (available on Google play and iTunes).
When I finally get to class, I love the great music. Leave your earphones at home, as each coach’s music is always blasting in the studio. Some people rock to 80s songs, while others jam to hip-hop, country, and more. 🎶
(Super awesome coach Erica from Lakewood Ranch, Florida)
Certified coaches are great! They are fun, passionate, and motivating. They will encourage you throughout the class, demonstrate parts of the weight floor, suggest lower-impact alternatives, share inspirational quotes, and cheer you on. 🎉
Some locations also have super fun Spirit Week where you can dress up all week long, and each day is different, including Favorite Team Day, 80’s Week, and more. 💃
Orangetheory Fitness is like a family.
From the front desk staff to the managers to the coaches, everyone goes out of their way to get to know you and make you feel welcome from day one. Even on days when I’m exhausted and unmotivated, I always feel glad I came the moment I walk in the door.
The members are also very encouraging! There are always lots of high fives and fist pumps, and we all support and encourage each other. 🥰
So, are there any downsides to Orangetheory Fitness?
The only negative point in our opinion is the price. It’s not cheap (see all the reasons above for why —> state-of-the-art equipment, great coaches, and very clean facilities!).
Prices vary by location, but most membership options start at around $80-90 per month for about 4 classes per month. Alternatively, you can pay around $140 to $190 per month to take unlimited classes.
Please be careful. Our corporate office may offer special holiday packages (Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, etc.). These packages usually include a certain number of classes and a heart rate monitor, and are very reasonably priced. They don’t come in often, so if you’re interested, call your local studio to see if they have something like this available.
Yes, this is a serious investment and may not be an option for everyone, but if you have the budget and want to start taking care of yourself, this investment is worth it.
Note from Bryn: I know this post sounds like an ad, but it’s not. This post is not sponsored by Orange Theory Fitness. We really love this program so we had to share it. If you’re a current member or decide to give it a try, be sure to leave a comment and let us know what you think.
