WEBSTER — Three Chautauqua Cattaraugus Athletic Association divers completed five rounds Friday afternoon to qualify for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Women’s Diving Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center. The three of them made it through the first round of cuts.
This trio didn’t just sneak in either, the girls shined and established themselves in the top 15 of the leaderboard.
Fredonia senior Elizabeth Pucci Schaefer picked up where she left off in her junior campaign, finishing third and leading the pack with an impressive score of 228.35 points. The future Nittany Lion currently has a 4.8-point lead over Shenendehowa’s Morgan Davey with 223.55 points, with Manhasset’s Victoria Wang in third place with 219.2 points.
Frewsburg’s Elaina Pitts followed Puig Schaefer in the diving order and continued to crack the top 10 with a five-dive score of 205.10, just ahead of Pittsford’s Jamie Kotalik of 204.65.
Fredonia’s Leah Marsh not only hung on past the first cut, but headed into the next three dives with a 13th place score of 199.60. Marsh follows just behind tournament favorite Kaylin Kachuk (Owego Free Academy) with a score of 200.25, while second-seeded Madison Morris (Maine-Endwell) currently sits in eighth place with a score of 205.60.
