Fort Boys open with victory
FORT DEFIANCE — Fort Defiance opened the boys basketball season with a 58-53 win over Broadway on Tuesday night, with three players scoring in double figures.
In the win, Fort had 10 points from Bradley Hebb, Giovani Armendariz Cruz and Trip Hanger.
Fort will host Turner Ashby on Friday night.
waynesboro girl falls
SHEnandoah — Page County defeated Waynesboro 57-48 in overtime in girls basketball Tuesday night.
Waynesboro freshman Shavea Torian had 18 points, nine rebounds and three steals in the loss. For Waynesboro, junior Tia Miller had nine points and junior Aaliyah Diggs had eight points.
“I think we played a great game, but we’ve got to learn to let things go,” Waynesboro coach Skylar Napier said. “We have to keep pushing and playing our game until the end.”
Staunton girls win
STAUNTON — Staunton opened the 2024-25 season with a 59-34 win over Rocktown on Tuesday.
Stanton led 16-7 after the first quarter and extended the lead to 19 points at halftime.
For the Storm, freshman Treu Williams provided balanced scoring with 13 points. Stanton had 10 players finish in the scoring column. Sophomore Hayden Terry and freshman Nymya Rodriguez both scored nine points in the win.

volleyball postseason awards
Fort Defiance just finished state runner-up in Class 2 volleyball this year and had three players selected to the VHSL All-State team.
Macy Frizell was selected to the All-State Class 2 first team. The junior was a leader for Fort all season. She broke the school record with 565 kills in a season.
Freshman Caroline Hunger and sophomore Nora Anderson were selected to the All-State second team.
In Region 1B, Buffalo Gap had five players advance to All-Region this season.
Freshman Harper Carter and senior Hannah Coffman were named to the first team, while freshmen Avery Wheeler and Bailey Tribble and senior Mare Shaver were named to the All-Region 1B second team.

Buffalo Gap, which advanced to the regional championship by Friday night, had 11 players ranked first or second among all-region 1B teams.
Offensive linemen sophomore Carson Townsend and junior Coltrey Rodriguez make the first team along with senior running back Colby Jago, sophomore receiver Bradley Shiplett and junior offensive all-rounder Isaac Goff. was a member of
Defensively, senior Lane Malcolm was a first-team linebacker and Jago was a first-team defensive lineman.
Gap placed junior center Shane Huffer, senior defensive lineman Hunter Brown, sophomore linebacker Caleb Deaver and sophomore defensive back Brandon Ergenbright on the second team.
