Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud is in enemy territory this week. The former Ohio State Buckeyes QB lives in Texas, where the state’s flagship school is about to face his alma mater in the College Football Playoff semifinals at the Cotton Bowl.
The Texans are scheduled to face the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday afternoon in Game 1 of the 2025 NFL Playoffs. But the night before, when the Buckeyes take on the Longhorns at AT&T Stadium, Stroud’s attention will no doubt be 300 miles north.
Stroud, who is in Texas, certainly heard that from Texas fans around the team. He told the media that he had already made a bet with some teammates.
“There’s a lot of University of Texas players here, so there’s a lot of betting going on,” Stroud said. “When you see the players in scarlet on Saturday morning, you’ll understand where it’s coming from.”
The Texans have two former Longhorns in defensive back Kris Boyd and practice squad running back Andrew Beck.
Stroud went on to say he’s rooting for some Longhorns to do well.
“One of my best friends is Silas Bolden, who actually plays at UT,” he said. “You know, he made a punt return last week, which was great. So I’m rooting for him and only him. I also like Quinn (Ewers). Quinn is a former teammate of mine. But hey, I’m going to Bucks all day.
