“I said… oh, I think he fired me too,” Bottoms told Channel 2’s Jorge Estevez. “So I was very tickled to see that. The president of the United States is thinking about me the day after his historic 1:30 a.m. inauguration.”
“Doesn’t the president have the right to declare to his supporters and the country that he will release the people of the previous administration?” Estevez asked.
“He said yes, but I have already submitted my resignation to President Biden on January 4th and it will be effective from January 20th,” she responded.
Bottoms said he is now putting everything behind him and looking to return to Georgia politics.
“When I left the mayor’s office, I always said, ‘Never say never,'” Bottoms said.
“Going to the races in Georgia?” Estevez asked.
“To the races in Georgia,” she answered.
“So you’re saying you have something to run for in our state?” Estevez asked.
“It might be,” she answered.
“So what is it?” he asked.
“Well, there’s going to be a gubernatorial race on the ballot,” she laughed.
The Georgia gubernatorial election is expected to feature Republican and Democratic challengers, as Governor Brian Kemp will not be able to run for a third term.
“But do you think the people of this state are ready for a woman governor, a woman of color, someone with a political past that they can see and judge?” Estevez asked.
“Absolutely. Of course,” Bottoms replied.
She said she wishes the president success in fulfilling his campaign promises.
In it, she mentioned lowering inflation, ending the war in Ukraine, and resolving the immigration issue.
