CBS Sports Network’s continued coverage of the 2024 college football season will feature six games from Week 8, including three weeknight games before Saturday’s tripleheader.
Conference USA takes center stage Wednesday night as Florida International travels to UTEP. And on Friday night, Fresno State and Nevada set the stage for a busy Mountain West Conference weekend. This will be an important game for both teams to remain in bowl game contention.
Saturday’s game begins early in the morning with an interesting midday game, as Wake Forest takes on a fast-rising University team. The team is just a few wins away from reaching a bowl game for the second time in three years under coach Jim Mora. Shortly after, Navy will take the field as an AP-ranked team for the first time since 2019 as the Midshipmen host Charlotte in an American Athletic Conference game.
The Mountain West will be back in action with Saturday’s nightcap. Air Force will look to get its season back on track as it welcomes Colorado State to Falcon Stadium at 8 p.m. ET.
Once the Week 8 games begin, CBS Sports Network will be with you every step of the way. In the meantime, check out the info, storyline, betting odds and more for each matchup.

Spread: Florida International -5.5 |Will the Panthers cover? Check out SportsLine’s Week 8 predictions here
It’s been a tough adjustment for UTEP coach Scotty Walden, 34. He’s still looking for his first win with the Miners, one of two non-winless Conference USA teams this year. FIU at least provides that opportunity. The Panthers were pretty inconsistent. They had wins over Central Michigan University and Louisiana Tech, but also lost to FCS Monmouth. They are 0-3 on the road this year, which clearly works in UTEP’s favor.

Spread: Fresno State -2.5 | Will the Bulldogs cover? Check out SportsLine’s Week 8 predictions here
Nevada is riding a lot of momentum after the Wolf Pack defeated Oregon State 42-37 in Week 7 for the biggest win of the Jeff Choate era. Nevada did it on the back of one of the best rushing attacks in the Mountain West Conference. Nevada is allowing 215.7 yards per game. Quarterback Brendon Lewis has started the offense with his legs, rushing for 513 yards and four touchdowns, and Savion Redd has been a reliable running back option. Fresno State is the opposite. The Bulldogs currently rank third in the Mountain West with 270.8 passing yards per game, but are third-worst in the conference with 114.3 rushing yards per game.

Spread: UConn -2 |Will the Huskies cover? Check out SportsLine’s Week 8 predictions here
As the spread suggests, Wake Forest should have its hands full with UConn. These are certainly not your father’s Huskies. After starting the year 1-2, UConn has won three straight games, all against FBS competition, and two of those wins were by at least 34 points. UW’s defense was particularly impressive. The Huskies haven’t allowed more than 21 points since losing to Maryland in the season opener, and their last three opponents have combined for 37 points. Wake Forest already lost to one of its Group 5 opponents in Louisiana a few weeks ago. The Demon Deacons will be motivated to make sure it doesn’t happen again (yes, UConn is independent, but at the same level).
Charlotte, 25th Navy

Spread: Navy -17.5 |Will the cadets cover? Check out SportsLine’s Week 8 predictions here
Rank Navy is authentic and wonderful. The Midshipmen have certainly attacked opponents this season and are clicking on both sides of the ball. But the offense under new coordinator Drew Kronic has been particularly impressive. Navy has scored at least 34 points in every game so far. Already exceeding his point total for the entire 2023 season, quarterback Blake Horvath is hurting teams with both his arm and his legs. Now, the Mids will have an interesting test against a Charlotte team that has surprised them a bit this season as they start American Athletic Conference play 2-0.
Colorado Air National Guard

Spread: Colorado -7.5 |Will the Wolfpack cover? Check out SportsLine’s Week 8 predictions here
Colorado State got back on track with a 31-24 win over San Jose State in Week 7. Prior to the win, the Rams were 1-3 against FBS opponents. Meanwhile, the Air Force is still looking for a lifeline. One of the youngest teams in college football, the Falcons are on the rise under veteran coach Troy Calhoun. They suffered a 52-37 loss against New Mexico in Week 7, dropping their record to 1-5 on the year and 0-3 in Mountain West games. The Falcons are currently 0-9 in their last nine regular season games against FBS opponents.
