The next few weeks will mark the time when thousands of students in the area will be moving into college. We know families living in college apartments and dorms will be looking for affordable furniture options to help them save on their budgets, so we turned to Habitat for Humanity ReStores for help.
What you need to know Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a donation center that sells new and used furniture, appliances, household goods, building materials and more to the public.
Habitat Restore is run by the local Habitat for Humanity organization
Habitat for Humanity has ReStore locations in Greater Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany and New York City that offer discounted furniture, decor, building supplies and appliances. Proceeds from ReStore sales help Habitat for Humanity build more homes for people in need.
“It’s pretty divided by room and style of product,” said Dan Petronio, director of Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity Restores. “If there’s something you’re looking for, we have it in our store. We have a Hamilton Beach microwave. It’s pretty pricey in the store, but we sell it in our store for $20.”
Everything in the ReStore has been donated, and some items are brand new.
“We have families coming in all the time and they need to fill their dining rooms and living rooms, and the affordable prices make it easy to do that here,” said Jordan Stanford, manager of ReStore in Webster.
“In New York state, over the last 14 years or so, Habitat has built over 800 homes, and the funds we raise from our local Restores go directly to the communities that support the homes you drive by every day,” Pertronio said.
By shopping, donating, or volunteering at Habitat ReStores, you keep usable home improvement supplies out of landfills and help build affordable housing.
