The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) supervisor has directed disaster relief workers in Florida to “avoid homes” with signs supporting President-elect Donald Trump, the agency confirmed Friday.
According to the Daily Wire, FEMA official Marni Washington announced her edict both verbally and in a Microsoft Teams chat used by relief workers searching Lake Placid homes destroyed by Hurricane Milton last month. He said he told him.
“Avoid promoting President Trump at home,” the Washington government wrote in a “best practices” memo to employees.
The order was the second bullet on a list instructing workers not to “go anywhere alone,” practice “de-escalation,” stay hydrated, and “follow the rules.” .
FEMA officials told the report that at least 20 homes displaying Trump signs and flags, commonly seen during the campaign, were cordoned off from late October to November as a result of the executive order. .
When the home was cordoned off because of the banner, a message left by an employee on FEMA’s tracking system read, “President Trump signs leadership ban.”
After a Category 3 hurricane made landfall, residents were denied the opportunity to register for federal FEMA disaster relief for neglecting their homes.
A FEMA spokesperson confirmed that the order was issued to divert the Trump supporter’s home and said the agency was “extremely disturbed by this employee’s actions.”
“FEMA supports all survivors, regardless of political preference or affiliation, and we are deeply disturbed by this employee’s actions,” an agency spokesperson told the Post Friday night. Ta.
“While we believe this is an isolated incident, we have taken steps to remove the employee from his role and are conducting an investigation to ensure this never happens again,” they added.
“The employee who provided this guidance was not authorized to do so and was not given instructions to direct the team to avoid these homes. We are in contact.
“We are horrified that this has happened and have taken extreme action to rectify this situation and ensure this issue is addressed at all levels,” the spokesperson said. Ta.
Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was furious Friday over the incident, saying it represented the “weaponization” of government by the Harris-Biden administration.
“The blatant weaponization of the government by partisan activists in the federal bureaucracy is another reason the Biden-Harris administration is in its final stages,” DeSantis wrote in X.
He added: “At my direction, the Office of Emergency Management will launch an investigation into targeted federal discrimination against Floridians who support Donald Trump.”
“New leadership is emerging in Washington, D.C., and I’m optimistic that these partisan bureaucrats will be fired.”
The FEMA regulator’s guidance comes as the Harris-Biden administration comes under fire from Trump, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance and residents of areas affected by Hurricane Helen, saying the federal government has been woefully slow in responding to disasters. The announcement was made after the incident.
FEMA officials told The Daily Wire that Washington state was not penalized for the guidance, only that it was moved to another county in Florida. However, a FEMA spokesperson told the Post that Washington “is no longer involved in Florida or FEMA operations at this time” pending the outcome of the investigation.
