PITTSFORD — On two separate occasions Saturday afternoon, a train passed over the tracks just a stone’s throw from the scoreboard end of Pittsford-Sutherland High School’s Audiway Field.
Each time, the engineer honked his horn twice.
For those who play or watch the eight-man New York State Public High School Athletic Association Far West District, it was difficult to ignore the figurative “locomotive” wearing Pembroke’s No. 3 jersey in Section 5. Just like that, this match was hard to ignore.
Running back Caleb Felski unofficially had 36 carries for 445 yards and five touchdowns, leading the Dragons to a 50-19 victory over Frewsburg. Ta.
It’s Pembroke’s 34th straight victory, and it advances to the West Regional semifinals this Friday at noon at Vestal High School outside Binghamton, where it will play either Round 5 wild card Horley or Frankfort Schuyler.
You can guess who the Mustang will definitely feature.
But Felski, who stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 190 pounds, is no one-trick “pony.”
In addition to his impressive rushing totals, Felski gained nearly 3,500 yards on the ground and scored 51 TDs this season. Felski also threw a touchdown pass to Vijay Dhanda. He entered the game aiming for a two-point conversion. Defensively, he intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble to deny Golden Frysburg three chances to score.
Caleb Kimmel scored Pembroke’s other touchdown on a 57-yard run early in the fourth quarter.
Despite several injuries, Frewsburg led just 16-12 early in the second quarter, but was unable to contain Felski and allowed the Mustangs to win on the road. .
For the Bears, Trent Lewis had a 60-yard TD strike to Chase Haglund in the first quarter. Lewis scored on a 2-yard run in the second period. In the fourth quarter, Henry Eckert caught Drake Beckstrom’s 16-yard scoring strike.
