Local reports say it turns out that a well-known Colorado real estate developer was fatally shot in Belize over the weekend.
Boris Mansfeld, 56, was found lying on the floor of his garden on Friday night, with bullet wounds on the back of his head, local media outlet Break News Belize (BNB).
The fatal incident occurred at a villa in Cocopuram, Maya Beach. In 2010, four years after he moved permanently to the country with his family, he founded his own development company with Belize, Boris Mansfeld and others.

Police Commissioner Chester Williams added to reporters that Mansfeld’s death has all the features of a targeted hit, but the exact motive remains unknown, BNB reported.
A loaded 9mm pistol, Mansfeld’s wallet and a used shell casing were found near his body, police told the outlet.
“There are all the signs of a hit,” Williams said.
“We are looking at business transactions that Mannsfeld may have with other individuals. We will see if we can close the possible motivations and perhaps suspiciously,” Williams said.
The police chief added that one suspect, Frik de Meyere, is currently in custody, but no charges have been filed as of Monday.
De Meyere is a former employee of Mannsfeld’s and was questioned in connection with the murder of businessman Ricardo Borja in 2023. Borja worked for a company in Mansfield.

“It’s not wrong to assume there might be some connection there, and we’re looking at that possibility,” William said.
Before his death, Borja claimed that de Mayere was behind the land fraud scheme and had planned a meeting with legal counsel, real estate agencies and the government’s special crimes department. However, Borya was killed before he could speak up.
BNB also reported in an email in January that Mannsfeld looked at his involvement in a $3.9 million lawsuit against a former associate, referring to millions of “mass fraud cases” on stolen assets.
Williams admitted that Mansfeld’s murder could be linked to the deaths of Borja and Darren Taylor.

Mansfeld’s profile on his company’s website details how he “falls in love” on his first trip in 1992, creating his “barefoot paradise” in 2006.
He is said to enjoy endurance mountain biking, road biking and snow skiing, among other activities.
Mannsfeld’s business sells condominiums, land plots and other properties in Belize. Mannsfeld also said he was involved in hotel projects, specific companies and renewable energy companies.
News of Mansfeld’s death comes after it was discovered that three American women have died from the possibility of overdose at a Belize beach resort.
