Eleven people, including several members of one family, were killed in an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza on Saturday night, hospital authorities said.
Khalil al-Daklan, a spokesman for Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, told CNN that others were injured in the attack on a house east of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.
CNN has provided information to the Israeli military about the location of the attack and has requested comment.
Elsewhere, the Israeli military said it had attacked Hamas operatives operating “inside a command and control center in the Darazi Tufa district,” which it said was a former school in northern Gaza City.
The Gaza Civil Defense Force announced on Sunday that its teams had recovered six bodies and a number of injured people from a site housing displaced people.
The IDF also reported on ground operations in the Beit Lahia area on the northern edge of Gaza, “during which troops eliminated a large number of terrorists and dismantled terrorist infrastructure facilities both above ground and underground.”
The Gaza Ministry of Health said the Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip has been under heavy fire since Saturday.
Dr. Hassam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, said on Sunday that a building near the hospital had been targeted with artillery shells and a bomb had been dropped by a drone into the courtyard.
The Israel Defense Forces told CNN it was not aware of any attacks on hospitals or shelling on Saturday. But World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called reports of strikes in the area of Kamal Adwan, which is frequently under fire, “very worrying.”
However, WHO was able to supply 5,000 liters of fuel and blood supplies to the hospital and transferred eight patients to another hospital amid “ongoing hostilities and explosions near the hospital during the mission”. announced that it had been transferred.
A UN convoy of nine trucks was able to reach the Beit Hanoun area in northern Gaza, where aid had been cut off for more than 75 days. The World Food Program said the convoy included two trucks of bottled water and seven trucks of flour and canned food.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate due to rising food prices.
CNN producers witnessed long lines for food at an NGO facility in central Gaza on Saturday.
One of the women, Yasra Salem Abu Al Rous, said she came to ensure food for her children because she could not afford flour and other necessities. “If it wasn’t for charity, the situation would have become untenable,” she says.
Another mother, Aya Albatun, said her daughter’s medical condition worsened dramatically during the conflict due to lack of nutrition.
“Before the war, she weighed about 9.5 kg. Now, due to lack of food and water, her weight has decreased to 4 kg. Even if food was available, it was too expensive and we could not afford it. I can’t afford to give it to her,” she said. “Every time I look at her, I feel like she won’t live much longer.”
Although there are signs of optimism about a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, including the release of hostages, there remains a stalemate and Israeli forces continue to operate across Gaza.
