Leeds United manager Daniel Farke says he hopes captain Ethan Ampadu’s knee injury is not serious.
The versatile Wales international was sent off after 41 minutes of Leeds’ 3-0 win over Coventry City.
Phalke said Ampadu believed his injury was “not too serious” but was awaiting further evaluation.
“It’s a knee injury,” Falke said. “No doubt it was too painful for him to continue because normally he tries everything to stay on the pitch.
“After the game, he was pretty positive. He said, ‘It definitely hurt,’ but I don’t think it’s that bad.” We have to wait for further evaluation, so we don’t want to be too optimistic at this point. I’m a little careful. ”
Ampadu is expected to be included in Wales’ squad for their Nations League matches against Iceland and Montenegro, with manager Craig Bellamy announcing the squad on Wednesday 2 October, with Farke also joining Wales manager Craig Bellamy. He and Bellamy will be eagerly awaiting Ampadu’s test results.
“Hopefully it’s not too bad, because we’re already missing some important players and we definitely need him,” Farke added of the 24-year-old.
“He’s one of the most important players for me, if not the most important player, and he’s our captain.
“He’s always playing in the center of the park. He’s important to the whole atmosphere, the whole spirit, the whole atmosphere.”
