Disney and ESPN have created plans to induce the sports appetite for Disney+US customers.
ESPN will launch its new “SportsCenter” show, “SC+,” on Monday, March 3rd, at Disney+ only. The show runs for at least 15 minutes, but varies in length.
“SC+” is called “fast-paced daily updates” of top sports moments built around the top 10 play segments of sports centers, featuring exclusive commentary and analysis from ESPN insiders and reporters. According to Disney, the show is designed for a more casual, entertainment-focused audience.
“SC+” can be streamed every morning from 9am to 9am, with each episode available 24 hours a day on demand at Disney. Over the weekend, Hannah Storm and Jay Harris will host “SC+” following ESPN’s “SportsCenter:AM” program.
The launch of “SC+” on Disney+ is a continuation of Disney’s strategy to introduce sports content to the streaming service’s customer base. This starts with the addition of ESPN tiles to Disney+ in December, and see content from ESPN+ that includes ESPN+ originals such as several live sporting events, studio shows and “30 For 30” documentaries.
Goal: 3-way Disney+ Subscribers subscribers to Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ bundles. ESPN+ is available separately for $11.99 a month, but includes over 30,000 live sporting events each year, as well as a library of on-demand replay and original content and studio programming.
Meanwhile, adding “SC+” and SELECT ESPN content to Disney+ lays the foundation for streamers to function as the lamp, which is now known as the ESPN flagship. Customers who subscribe to both ESPN flagship and Disney+ have access to the complete suite of ESPN and ESPN+ content within Disney+.
“We’re excited to be able to help you get started,” said Mike Foss, senior VP of Studio and Entertainment at ESPN. “‘Sc+’ strives to tell the best stories of sports every day in an unforgettable way. This fresh approach, coupled with Disney+’s vast reach, resonates with whether you’re an avid sports fan or looking for something new after the latest series Binge.”
Disney+ President Alisa Bowen said, “ESPN has long defined the excellence of sports programming. Today, Disney+ subscribers will have daily access to the most exciting sports news, moments and stories.”
