HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The University of Lynchburg’s equestrian team returned to action this weekend at the SCAD Tournament of Champions IHSA hosted by SCAD-Savannah, placing sixth out of 13 teams on Saturday.
The Hornets returned to competition for the first time in the new year and had a solid performance, including two first-place individual finishes. Ava Jackson took the 1st place spot in Limit Fences and Claire Humphreys took first place in Beginner Flat.
Jessica McElhaney finished third in the intermediate flat and was the last Hornet performer to earn a spot in the top three. Mackenzie Birch earned a fourth place finish on limit flats and Alexandria Russell earned a fourth place finish on open flats and intermediate fences. Elle Nutting was the sixth place finisher in open fences, rounding out Lynchburg’s performers in the show.
The next IHSA in Lynchburg is the VT IHSA Show from Saturday, February 15th to Sunday, February 16th. The Equestrian Crew will host its first NCEA meet in nearly two months when the Hornets travel south to Columbia, S.C., to take on South Carolina on Friday. , January 31, noon.
