Do you like making your own Christmas ornaments?
Make these beautiful and simple DIY embroidered hoop Christmas ornaments. It’s a super cute design using a trendy buffalo plaid pattern, but feel free to customize it to your liking.
This would be a super fun craft night idea to make with friends, especially if you use monograms or names as vinyl cutouts.
I love personalizing my tree so I try to make handmade ornaments every year. They make really fun present toppers and small gift ideas. These embroidered hoop ornaments are one of my favorite DIY decorative pieces I’ve ever made. 🤩
Don’t have a vinyl cutting machine? no worries!
You can make similar embroidered ornaments using the same fabric but with different appliqués. You can also glue pre-cut felt or white paper decorations to the front, glue white buttons, or use white craft paint to stencil your design. You can also order pre-cut vinyl shapes and letters from our Etsy shop.
Browse your local craft stores for fun ideas. Or consider some alternatives found online.

1
Cut designs and text using heat transfer vinyl. Please choose a size slightly smaller than the embroidery hoop you will be using. Remove excess vinyl for each shape/design.
2
Cut the fabric slightly larger than the embroidery hoop. On the highest setting, iron the decal down to the center of the fabric. Use scraps of fabric as a patch over your design. Do not iron directly onto vinyl.
Press the iron over the fabric with medium pressure for about 30-40 seconds. When you pull up the transparent film, the decal will remain on the fabric, so you’ll know you’ve ironed it correctly.
3
Open the embroidery hoop and center the fabric inside. Replace and secure the hoop.
4
Turn the ornament over and hot glue the remaining fabric to the back of the embroidery hoop.
5
Hot glue the greenery and faux berries to the top of the hoop (you can also use ribbon to glue the ribbon to the top). I started with ribbon and changed it to green, but how you decorate it is up to you. Attach a loop of yarn or ribbon to the top of the back of the ornament and hang it on the tree.
These embroidered hoop ornaments are bursting with cuteness.
Oh…my…these DIY embroidered hoop ornaments are adorable! I’m obsessed with plaid so these are right up my alley and I loved making them. Last year, I put all the ornaments together on a mini Christmas tree in the kitchen.
I love that you can completely customize this craft idea to your own tastes and use your favorite fabric patterns and desired shapes and wording. It’s so much fun!
Try this Christmas craft on a large scale.
I bought some beautifully made embroidered hoop Christmas decorations at a craft fair last year and used them on my Christmas decorated mantel. To make this, I used the same technique as the smaller ornaments, except with a larger 12-inch embroidery hoop and a different design. It’s so beautiful!
