Previously, the Amazon CEO made headlines after the Washington Post decided to end its support for the president. The media outlet’s move sparked a wave of criticism. In response, Bezos argued that the decision could help improve credibility. In an op-ed, he wrote that the president’s endorsement creates a “perception of bias” and does not “tip the scales” in the election.
“I don’t think any undecided voter in Pennsylvania would say, ‘I’m going with Paper A.’ No one,” Bezos wrote, defending the move. “What endorsing the president actually does is create a perception of bias. It creates a perception of non-independence. It’s a principled decision to end support for the president, and it’s the right decision. ”
