State and federal election security officials regularly brief the public in an effort to assure the public that the U.S. election process is not fraudulent, despite claims by some politicians, talk show hosts, and internet conspiracy theorists. is being carried out.
Allegations that widespread fraud influenced the 2020 election results have been disproved by dozens of court decisions and Congressional and state legislative investigations. But distrust of these results has fueled threats against election officials across the country.
The FBI is investigating packages mailed last month to election officials in about two dozen states, including Iowa and Nebraska, some of which contained a mysterious white powder. The FBI has not yet announced any arrests.
According to the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), some of the misinformation about the U.S. election comes from foreign actors. CISA issued a new warning Friday about Russia’s latest attempts to interfere with the voting process.
