Eight people were killed and 17 injured in a stabbing outside a school in eastern China.
According to a statement from local police, a 21-year-old man was arrested at Wuxi Yixing Arts, Crafts and Vocational Technical College in Wuxi at around 18:30 local time (10:30 Japan time).
The statement said the 2024 graduate of the school carried out the attack because he “didn’t get a diploma due to poor exam results” and was dissatisfied with his internship salary.
Police said the man confessed to the crime “without hesitation.”
They added that an investigation is ongoing and efforts are being made to “address the aftermath.”
The attack follows an incident on Monday in which a driver plowed his car into a crowd at a stadium in the southern city of Zhuhai, killing at least 35 people.
Police said the driver was dissatisfied with the divorce settlement, but the incident raised questions about the recent spate of public violence in the country.
On social media, there is discussion about the social phenomenon of “revenge on society,” in which individuals attack strangers to take revenge on them.
