An earthquake struck eastern Cuba on Sunday, after weeks of hurricanes and power outages left many in the country reeling.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 40 kilometers south of Bartolomé Maso, Cuba.
A woman outside Miami’s landmark Versailles restaurant told Local 10 News on Sunday that her relatives were unable to answer the phone, likely because there is no light or electricity on the island.
Rumors from the earthquake were felt throughout eastern Cuba, including large cities like Santiago de Cuba. The earthquake comes at another difficult time for Cuba.
Category 3 Hurricane Rafael hit western Cuba on Wednesday.
“I just got back from there,” one man told Local 10 News. “As I said, there’s a big hurricane coming. There’s a big problem with electricity and water there.”
The City of Miami released a statement Sunday saying: Or aftershocks being felt in Miami. ”
