Trump improved his 2020 vote share in 2,367 counties. His lead narrowed in just 240 counties. There were 536 counties with too few votes counted to be included in the analysis.
Support for Mr. Trump has wavered back and forth in his third consecutive presidential election, but early results show a shift to the right even in many states where Vice President Kamala Harris held the lead.
Mr. Trump appeared to be performing better on election night in a variety of counties, including those that have supported him in past elections and those that have historically leaned Democratic.
