WASHINGTON, DC — Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Washington representatives joined 6,200 people at the American Society of Military Engineers (SAME) Federal Small Business Conference (SBC) held November 19-22 in New Orleans, Louisiana. We participated with over 100 industry experts. The conference brought together federal agencies and small businesses in architecture, engineering, construction, and facilities management.
“This conference provided us with a valuable platform to collaborate with industry partners and federal agencies,” said Col. Atim St. Hill, NAVFAC Washington Operations Director. “By hearing directly from our small business partners about their challenges, we can identify and remove barriers to entry and ultimately expand our contracting capabilities.”
NAVFAC Washington’s participation included presentations at a dedicated booth and matching sessions with small business representatives. The command focused on new opportunities in sustainable construction, including energy-efficient construction methods, renewable energy sources, and environmentally friendly materials.
The SBC featured interactive sessions on artificial intelligence applications and cybersecurity risk mitigation in the construction sector, along with strategic networking opportunities with small business leaders. Attendees discussed innovative partnerships for complex logistics projects and learned about the Office of Small Business Programs’ APEX Accelerator program, which provides training to companies seeking federal, state, and local government contracts. .
“Our participation in this conference directly supports NAVFAC Washington’s efforts to expand opportunities for small businesses,” said Anna Giles Bedenbaugh, Deputy Director of Small Business. “The insights gained will help us develop more effective strategies to increase small business participation in federal contracting.”
The SBC reinforced NAVFAC Washington’s focus on leveraging market trends and industry capabilities to enhance small business participation in federal contracting opportunities.
