SAGINAW TWP, MI – The new year began with a change in Saginaw County’s business climate. Several retailers have closed near the intersection of Bay Road and Tittabawassee Road, and several new businesses have opened.

H&M pulls out of Saginaw’s Fashion Square, mall officials urge community to shop local
Clothing retailer H&M has closed at Fashion Square Mall in Saginaw Township.
The store closed permanently on Saturday, January 4th. Mall officials announced the news this week via Fashion Square’s Facebook page.
“Let this be a reminder of the ever-changing retail landscape. While we will miss the style and convenience they brought to our communities, this moment is a great time for businesses that continue to call our malls home, It’s also an opportunity to step up and support the companies that are coming up, so they can give us what we want: a mall full of community, joy, fashion, food, fun, and entertainment. ” the post reads in part.

Edible Arrangements closes near Saginaw’s Bay and Tittabawassee in Party City
Edible Arrangements is closing near the intersection of Bay Road and Tittabawassee Road in Kochville Township, Saginaw County, and another retailer related to celebrations and parties will follow suit.
A message to customers was posted on the Facebook page of Edible Arrangements (Saginaw, Michigan) and on the store door at 2910 Tittabawassee Road.
A sign on the door reads, “We regret to inform you that we will be closing our store on December 28th.” “Thank you very much for your patronage over the past 18 years. Thank you for your patronage and support.”
Nearby Party City, 2918 Tittabawassee Road, is scheduled to close due to a closing sale. For Party City, the closures are not just local, but company-wide.
New Jersey-based Party City has more than 850 stores across the United States, including 21 in Michigan.

Saginaw Dunham’s Sports is closing.
Dunham’s Sports is closing its only store in Saginaw County.
This large sporting goods store is located at 4358 Bay Road, on the plaza where Guitar Center and Best Buy are located. A sign posted on the door in early January indicated that closing was imminent.
“Dear valued customer, our last day of operation at this location will be Sunday, 1/12/25,” the sign reads.

New Qdoba opens on State Street in Saginaw Township
A new Qdoba Mexican Eats restaurant has opened on State Street in Saginaw Township.
The restaurant, which opened in late December at 5775 State St., is near Verizon, Biggby Coffee and the new Pizza Hut.
State Street Qdoba is the second in Saginaw County. The other restaurant is located at 5165 Bay Road in Kochville Township.

Hemlock Semiconductor marks ‘significant milestone’ in expanding Saginaw County manufacturing capacity
Hemlock Semiconductor is one step closer to increasing its manufacturing capacity in Saginaw County thanks to newly secured $325 million in CHIPS Act funding.
The U.S. Department of Commerce has awarded Thomas Township-based Hemlock Semiconductor (HSC) up to three dollars under the CHIPS Incentive Program commercial manufacturing facility funding opportunity, according to a news release issued Tuesday, Jan. 7. Announced $25 million in direct funding. It was announced last fall.
The award will support the construction of a new manufacturing facility in Saginaw County, creating approximately 180 manufacturing jobs and more than 1,000 construction jobs, a U.S. Department of Commerce news release said.

what’s that? New trampoline park celebrates grand opening after the holidays
A new trampoline park recently opened near the intersection of Bay Road and Tittabawassee Road, and a grand opening celebration is planned for after the holidays.
Urban Air Adventure Park is located at 3177 W. Bay Drive, in the plaza at Burlington and Dollar Tree.
A grand opening commemorative ceremony was held on January 4th.

10 Mid-Michigan small businesses received nearly $200,000 in grants
Great Lakes Bay Business Hub officials have announced the recipients of nearly $200,000 in direct grants to small businesses and are now accepting applications for the next round of grants.
“After receiving more than 29 competitive applications, 10 small businesses received funding totaling $194,688.03,” a Central Michigan University Research Corporation (CMURC) news release said.
“This collaborative initiative involving small business development centers, regional chambers of commerce, community and economic development organizations, and entrepreneurial service providers is now accepting applications for the next round of grants, with a deadline of May. It’s the 13th.”
