Days after Taylor Swift endorsed Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris and praised her running mate Tim Waltz for supporting women and the LGBTQ community, Donald Trump slammed her on “Truth Social” and said he dislikes her.
Swift said she was inspired to publicly endorse Harris on Instagram on September 10 after Trump used an AI-generated image to falsely portray her as endorsing the Republican candidate in another TruthSocial post in August.
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because I believe she’s fighting for rights and causes that we need warriors to defend,” Swift said.
Polls for the US presidential election suggest it will be a close race. Given Swift’s powerful influence in pop culture, the endorsement has the potential to draw millions of her most devoted fans to the polls. But it’s unclear whether Swift has significantly or further altered public opinion. An ABC News/Ipsos poll released Sunday found that only 6% of adults said Swift’s endorsement of Harris made them more likely to vote for her.
Democrats were quick to criticize and ridicule Trump’s post, which simply read, “I hate Taylor Swift!”
“Cats! Dogs! Geese! Laura Loomer! Look, now he’s attacking Taylor!” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a post by X.
“Voters know all too well how dangerous Trump and his Project 2025 policies would be if he wins,” Sarafina Chitica, a spokeswoman for the Harris-Waltz campaign, said in a statement, alluding to the Swift song.
Swift endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.
