Disney+ has lost 700,000 subscribers worldwide in recent months, according to Disney’s first quarter of 2025.
Disney said there were 144.6 million Disney+ subscribers compared to the number of subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2024, a 0.7 million decrease compared to the number of subscribers. The decline in subscribers comes after Disney+ prices rise in the fall. Disney+ with Ads went from $7.99 to $9.99, while Disney+ Ad-Free went from $13.99 to $15.99.
Disney also launched a crackdown on Disney+ password sharing in September, introducing “pay sharing” plans in the US, Canada and parts of Europe. The system restricts the use of your account to members of one household and terminates use by multiple households unless the primary subscriber pays an additional fee.
The first quarter of 2025 marked the first quarter, and there have been Disney+ defeated subscribers since the service was launched, but Disney CEO Bob Iger said he was unable to cancel his subscriber on a revenue call. He said he discussed the outcome as it was not as bad as expected.
In the second quarter of 2025, Disney expects to expect another decline in Disney+ subscriptions. While Disney+ subscriptions were down, Hulu has attracted 1.6 million subscribers during the quarter, reaching a total of 53.6 million payroll subscribers.
Disney’s total revenues rose 4.8% during the quarter. This is largely thanks to the Moana 2, which won more than $1 billion in theaters.
