Disney-inspired social media influencer Dominique Brown, 34, suffered a medical emergency on Dec. 5 during a lunch in downtown Los Angeles hosted by pop culture-themed retail merchandiser Box Lunch. and died.
Brown co-founded Black Girl Disney with her friend Mia Vuong in 2018 after noticing the underrepresentation of Black women among Disney influencers.
According to a user on X who claims to have been her mother’s best friend for 10 years, Brown has a severe peanut allergy, and although she was told that the food at the event did not contain peanuts, she immediately felt sick. He said he was taken to the hospital. SFGate reported that an investigation into her cause of death is underway.
In a statement to Us Weekly, Box Ranch said: “We are devastated that Dominique Brown, a beloved member of the Box Lunch Collective, passed away after suffering a medical emergency at an event hosted by Box Lunch in Los Angeles on Thursday. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. Our hearts go out to their friends and we will do everything we can to support them, the members of BoxLunch Collective, and our team during this difficult time.”
An anonymous source told Us Weekly that a 911 call was immediately made and the company alerted the venue to all the guests’ food allergies. Brown’s last Instagram post showed her wearing a Winnie the Pooh sweater and credited her with a boxed lunch.
A People magazine reporter who attended the event said CPR was immediately performed on Brown during the event. She recently attended the Disney premiere of the movie Moana 2.
“This didn’t have to happen. … it couldn’t have happened,” Brown’s friend wrote in the thread, posting a photo of them together.
Brown’s brother wrote in a comment on her last Instagram post: Disney certainly brought her joy, but finding a community that loved her and Disney as much as she did was unique. I will miss my sister and best friend and that infectious smile she always had. I am truly grateful from the bottom of my heart. ”
