Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem said Sunday that he was in favor of removing the Federal Emergency Management Agency in its current form.
“Yes, we can remove FEMA in the way we exist today,” Noem said in an interview with CNN about the “Status of the Union.”
“We still need resources, funds and finances to go to people with these types of disasters, such as Hurricane Helen and the California fire,” she added.
Noem said President Donald Trump “doesn’t do it and he’ll give it his team and its evaluation,” and “congress and work” to make sure it’s “good done.” He added that he would do so.
Her comments have led to the removal of FEMA in the wake of several natural disasters, including Hurricane Helen in North Carolina and the devastating California wildfires in the Los Angeles area that have plagued the United States in recent weeks and months. It comes when you explore.
On his visit to North Carolina in January, Trump told reporters:
Also, while in the state, the president said, “Perhaps because there are few FEMAs, so FEMA is not doing their job. And we’re looking at the whole concept of FEMA.”
On Sunday, I asked CNN to confirm the report in the Washington Post. Elon Musk and his government efficiency, or his team at Doge, are given access to FEMA disaster data, including sensitive personal data about disaster victims, Noem said. The President has allowed access to (Musk). ”
“We are working with them at the president’s direction and finding what we can do to make our department more efficient,” Noem said.
Noem also spoke about the Trump administration’s plan to house immigrants in Cuba’s Guantanamo Bay.
The administration is currently planning to house violent offenders in Guantanamo, but Noem has not ruled out housing non-violent offenders at the facility. And I don’t think the president is going to tie his hands to what he needs to do to make sure America is safe. ”
The project to build a temporary detention facility in Guantanamo is still underway, but Noem added that it expects it to accommodate up to 30,000 migrants there.
Last week, in an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Noem dodged several questions about whether women and children are housed in Guantanamo and whether they would not rule it out.
On Sunday, in response to a question about whether CNN is happy with the legality of bringing people from US soil to Guantanamo, Noem said, “I am, and the president is happy with it.” Ta.
She did not commit to a timeline to detain people there before they were brought back to their homeland.
