The leading Democrats on Monday called for an investigation into possible criminal corruption involving Elon Musk, the high-tech billionaire tasked with cutting the federal government and the wealthiest man in the world.
The investigation states that “the Federal Aviation Administration’s decision to cancel a $2.4 billion contract with Verizon to upgrade air traffic control communications and Musk’s Starlink to help manage US airspace,” Senators Chris Van Hollen, Richard Blumental and Elizabeth Warren wrote to Pam Bondi and the Attorney General.
“We ask that the Department of Transport Inspectors’ Office and the Department of Justice are investigating the scope of Musk’s activities in the FAA,” the senator said.
The investigation said Musk would decide “in his ability as a special government employee at the White House, he participated in certain issues in which he had financial interests in violating the criminal dispute law.”
After a series of crash drops and accidents, some fatal, letters and two others were sent only to the Guardian amid widespread concern over the state of the US air traffic control system under Trump.
In a lengthy letter to Trump’s White House Chief of Staff Susie Wills, the three senators are joined by Oregon Jeff Merkley and Maryland Sen. Jamie Ruskin, who cite the power of Congress’ oversight, saying, “We’re going to repeat the worst of the fight when the administration asks us to immediately correct it.”
The third letter called on Secretary Gene Dodaro to conduct an investigation into whether the appointment of former Georgia Rep. Doug Collins would harm either of the body to run both the U.S. Veterans Affairs Bureau and the Government Ethics Bureau.
Musk’s vast wealth is achieved through companies including Tesla, X and SpaceX, creating Starlink Satellite Internet Technology. Having donated hundreds of millions to Trump’s election campaign, he is responsible for efforts to cut what is called “government efficiency” or Doge, or federal budgets and staffing.
Turning to Bondi and his neck, Democrats said, as a special government official, Musk should be “a subject to the federal government’s rules of interest disputes,” and that “it could be using his government’s role to benefit his own private companies.”
The Democrats said, citing the Washington Post, Bloomberg News and Rolling Stone:
“In addition, Starlink has begun shipping its hardware to the FAA, but the company says it offers satellite kits for free. However, sources suggest that the FAA is ordering staff to “start to find tens of millions of dollars for Starlink transactions.”
SpaceX calls reports on FAA transactions “False” and says, “Starlink could be a partial fix to its aging system. There is no effort or intention for Starlink to “take over” existing contracts. This means “fear, uncertainty, doubt.”
In February, Musk said, appearing in the co-oval office with Trump: “All our actions are fully public. So if you see what you’re saying, wait a second, hey, what do you know… It’s probably that you know, you know, that’s not that people are shy about saying it. They’ll say it right away.”
Trump said if he thought Musk might create a conflict, “We won’t let him do that segment or see the area.”
Since he joined politics in 2015, allegations of corruption and conflict of interest in which Trump has been involved are the corps.
In a letter to Wills, Democrats said: “Despite President Trump’s promise to fight for his working families, he has appointed billionaires from a series of corporates and industry insiders, putting himself in a position to enrich himself at the expense of ordinary Americans.”
Last week, Trump tried to use White House lawns to drive his customers into the musk business. Tesla’s stock prices fell amid fears over Musk’s cost cuts and anger over his actions, giving Nazi-style salutes and abused US allies.
Called Musk Trump’s “unelected ‘co-president’,” Democrats accused him of “relently attacking and disarming the federal agencies that regulate his company, despite his company benefiting billions from federal contracts.”
“The corruption scandal is a hallmark of President Trump’s first term,” Democrats listed the second potential scandal. This included a lobbyist appointed him to a role that oversees his industry, allowing other appointees to invest in his sectors in adult children. ”
The cited instances include Trump boosting his own social media platforms and ventures with cryptocurrency. He continues to expand his foreign and domestic real estate holdings, including attempts to buy back the former Trump Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue. And he uses his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida as a “well-oiled pay machine.”
Democrats noted that Trump, the first government ethics director in US history, fired fire and without informing Congress when necessary, the launch of “at least 17 inspectors,” the Watchdog of the Independence Division. His attempt to fire the head of the Special Advisors Bureau.
But nonetheless, Democrats said Trump’s decision to “pass power” to Musk remains his most concerned move.
“Since President Trump took office, Democrats told Wills, “at least 11 … “enforcement actions against Musk’s companies with investigations, pending complaints or enforcement actions” have been blocked, including firing of agency independent committee members and rewinding agency independence.
“On the other hand, Musk’s company has already received at least $38 billion in federal funding, but is fighting for a new federal contract.”
The letter also raised the State Department’s attempt to purchase the purchased Tesla vehicles and the open “arguing that the agency “subject to increasing reliance on artificial intelligence.”
“Musk has done all this without revealing his financial interests to the public,” Democrats said.
Democrats said Trump could take steps “to reverse course and raise national interests ahead of his personal deal.” Such measures require the revival of the fired watchdog, the person who reviews candidates for conflicts of interest, and the ability to benefit from his efforts to manipulate the executive branch for his own interests, while “quickly releasing his financial disclosure form so that he can understand his potential conflicts of interest.”
With a deadline of March 31, Democrats asked Wills to answer six questions.
They asked Will Trump, who restored “all government watchdogs that say he was fired and protect independence from political interference.” It does not undertake to “appoint additional conflicts of interest that cannot be resolved based on existing ethical laws.” “Issuing Ethics Pledges” for new candidates. “I promise to sell from his private business interests, as did all previous presidents in modern times.” “I promise to disclose his tax return for the past three years.” And do you request that Musk “publish his financial disclosure form”?
Trump, Musk and Will did not immediately comment.
