The Delaware Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Association (SBA) recently announced this year’s Business Superstar Award winners. The winners are Delaware Nature Association, Courageous Hearts, RiversEdge Advisors and Surf Bagel. The winners will be recognized at a banquet on November 6th.
The Marvin S. Gilman Superstars in Business Awards program is named for Delaware small business leader Marvin Gilman. Representatives say Gilman “exemplified the highest ethical standards, found innovative ways to improve the world around him and inspired others to follow in his footsteps.”
The program has been recognizing small businesses and nonprofits for their outstanding achievements and exemplary approach to business and management since 1998. The awards are presented to small businesses that have been in business for at least three years, based on the number of full-time employees. Awards of Excellence are also presented to deserving businesses.
The 2024 Business Superstar winners are:
• Delaware Nature Society (Non-Profit Sector) — “Since its founding in 1964, Delaware Nature Society (DelNature) has continually worked to connect Delawareans and their neighbors with the natural world, protect the state’s lands and waters, and improve the environment for all. A regional leader in environmental education, conservation and advocacy, DelNature manages more than 2,000 acres of land throughout Delaware.”
• Courageous Hearts LLC (1-14 employees) — “With three locations in Lincoln, Bridgeville and Townsend, Delaware, Courageous Hearts combines the healing power of horses with high-quality psychotherapy services and professional development opportunities for individuals, families, groups, businesses and corporations. Sessions feature mental health clinicians and skilled equine professionals who guide participants through experiential learning.”
• RiversEdge Advisors (15-40 employees) — “RiversEdge Advisors is a registered investment advisory and business advisory firm that adheres to the highest fiduciary standards. The firm provides tax planning, estate planning, business planning, and corporate retirement plan services to high net worth individuals, business leaders, and corporate retirement plan sponsors.”
• Surf Bagels (41-150 employees) — “Surf Bagels is a quick-service breakfast and lunch restaurant specializing in freshly made New York-style bagels. Since opening its flagship location in Lewes, Delaware, 20 years ago, the restaurant has now expanded to four locations and has become an iconic brand in southern Delaware.”
The Excellence Award winners are as follows:
• Delaware Down Syndrome Association (non-profit arm)
• Jack Lingo Asset Management (1-14 employees)
• Tevebaugh Architecture (15-40 employees category)
• Bolden Brothers (41-150 employees)
The awards ceremony will be held Nov. 6 in the Gold Ballroom at the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington. Keynote speaker will be Michael Meoli, president, owner and operator of Meoli Companies, which owns and operates 25 McDonald’s restaurants throughout the Delmarva Peninsula in Delaware and Maryland.
“His restaurants are known for consistently achieving superior performance in customer satisfaction, operational excellence and employee and management development. He has received numerous awards within the McDonald’s system, including two Regional Ronald Awards and McDonald’s Corporation’s most prestigious owner/operator award, the Golden Arches Award, which recognizes the outstanding performance of the top 1 percent of owner/operators worldwide.”
