COLOMBUS – The Ohio Prep Sports Media Association has announced eight finalists for the 2025 Ohio Basketball Awards. The winners will be announced on Wednesday, March 20th.
Voting for 226 registered OPSMA members is currently underway and will close at noon on Monday, March 17th. The first place vote will earn 3 points, the second place vote, and one point with two points.
Ohio State Basketball was selected by the Associated Press from 1987 to 2016. It has been published by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association since 2017.

The 5-FOOR-11 senior guard is signed to play jointly in Perennial Division II Power West Liberty. He is an all-around player at Steubenville in Division III Regional Qualifiers, averaging his teams 17.9 on scoring, averaged rebounds, averaged 5.3 per game, and placed second in assists (3.1 per game) and steals (1.7). He was named East District Player of the Year. He scored a game-high 26 points in the East/Southeast Region Championship against the previously undefeated Miami Race, setting a 3-second school record in the game early in the season, and had eight people faced Dover. He made 86 3 in the season and shot 42% over the arc. Before returning to Steubenville, he was the entire state’s first team selection in West Virginia at Wheeling Park. There, he recorded the school marks in junior and sophomore points, three seconds in the season, three seconds. He finishes his high school career with 1,975 career points. Davis was also nominated for the 2025 McDonald’s National Games.

Last year, Mr. Basketball’s finalist, 6-foot-2 junior guard, already committed to Ohio State, ranking nationally for the 2026 class. He averaged 29.7 points in the regular season, leading Garfield Heights to a 19-2 record and a third Lake Ellie League title. Johnson moved to the new Division III this season as the top seed for the Northeast, after the Bulldogs reached two regional finals in Division I. In addition to his score, Johnson averaged 5.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.2 steels. He broke his father’s single-game school record with 52 points in a victory at Maple Heights late in the regular season with 55 points. His father and coach Sonny Johnson were former Basketball winners in 1998. Now, Marcus is about to become the first father-son combination to win honor after his father.

The 6-foot junior point guard averaged 20.7 points and 3.2 assists, leading the Blue Devils to a complete championship at the Greater Cleveland Conference. The left-handed left-handed, who held offers from Kent and Akron, made 10/125 free throws (.824) and 57 three-pointers, with a 33-point top game against 2024 DI Regional Champion Delaware Hayes and regional finalist Shaker Heights. Drexler has scored 1,225 career points and can challenge 1,842 Medina County records as a senior.

The 6-foot-6 senior guard/forward was the Central District Division I and District 11 Coach Player of the Year. Average 13.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.0 steel, who shot 46% from the field (40 from the 3-point range) as the driving force behind defensive 24-2 state semifinals, and has been responsible for state champions Cleveland St. Ignius and Runner Up Centerville and District Runner Rebilet twice, without losses within the state. (Twice), Westerville North, Groveport, Hartley. Brown, who plays virtually every position, signed with Davidson. In his final three seasons, he led the Orange to two regional finals and the final four.

The 6-foot-1 junior guard averages 28.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. He shot 62% from the field, 56.7% from the 3-point line and 94.1% from the free throw line. Already the DSJ’s highest scorer ever, the second highest ever in the history of the Midwest Athletic Conference. Two Mac Player of the Year. There is an offer from the University of Toledo. So far, interest from other Mac schools.

After transferring from Springboro, he helped lead the Knights to the Division II state title last season. D-II Second Team All Ohio last year. Coed-educational Player of the Year in the 2025 Greater Catholic League. He shot 50.6% from the field, 38.2 from the 3-point range and 85.2% with free throws.
