Sports Editor Matt Daniels has this to say about what’s happening in the area:
3 reasons why we love sports today
➜ 1. It’s not every decade that Illinois fans get to soak up Illinois’ 10-win football season. After Tuesday’s 21-17 victory over South Carolina, the 2024 Illinois football team surpassed the 2001 team as the only team to achieve that elusive mark in 135 years of Illinois football. He would join the 1990, 1983, and 1902 teams. citrus bowl.
➜ 2. Add in the fact that this Illinois football team finished the season with four straight wins, something the program hasn’t done since the 1999 team won its final five games, and Bret Bielema. And the future looks bright for the team.
➜ 3. Oh, and the vaunted SEC? Illinois football beat a team in the league for the first time, and that meant even more.

Former Illini and Detroit Lions safety Kirby Joseph has an interception this season. He added an NFL-leading two points total in the Lions’ 40-34 road win over the 49ers on Monday night. Now, the 24-year-old Joseph and his teammates are focused on clinching the No. 1 seed in the NFC when the Lions (14-2) host the Vikings (14-2) Sunday at 7:20 p.m. .

3 events I’m paying attention to
➜ 1. Illinois vs. Oregon State Men’s Basketball. Big Ten play resumes as the No. 22 Illini (9-3, 1-1 Big Ten) await No. 9 Oregon State (12-1, 1-1 Big Ten) in Eugene Thursday at 9 p.m. A chance to win arrives. Oregon-Illinois is looking for its first Big Ten road win against a top-10 team since a win over No. 7 Ohio State on March 6, 2021.
➜ 2. Maryland vs. Washington Men’s Basketball. Sunday’s opponent for the Washington State Illini as the Huskies (9-4, 0-2 Big Ten) host the Terrapins (11-2, 1-1) in Seattle on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. Get the scouting report for.
➜ 3. LeRoy Men’s Basketball Clinton. Looking for a quality high school game to attend on a Friday night? Head to Leroy’s.

Three questions for Blue Ridge men’s track and field coach Dave Kramer:
➜ 1. My favorite sports team is…the Chicago Bears. I’ve been a fan since the early 1980s (yes, I’m that old too). They’re not a great team at the moment, but they have their bright spots and I’m never giving up on them. Please be patient.
➜ 2. There are three coaches I would like to have dinner with… John Wood, whose philosophy I would like to absorb some of, and Tony Holler, whose philosophy on sprint training is Because it always fascinates me and Dan Campbell. Obviously I’m not a Detroit Lions fan, but his coaching style is something I admire.
➜ 3. My biggest complaint is…the lack of effort. Just like in sports, there are very few things in life that you can control, and effort is one of them. If you are not willing to give your full effort to a cause or cause, why did you sign up in the first place?
