The longest official field goal in the NFL is 66 yards. Justin Tucker achieved this feat in the Baltimore Ravens’ win over the Detroit Lions. The ball bounced off the crossbar, making it one of the most dramatic kicks in NFL history.
Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey made an easy 66-yard kick on Saturday night.
Aubrey was called to attempt a 66-yard field goal at the end of the first half of Saturday night’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders. He made it, and his Cowboys teammates cheered and coach Mike McCarthy clapped and laughed. It didn’t officially count because it was preseason, but it was a great kick.
The kick didn’t count and won’t rank next to Tucker in the NFL record books, but it was impressive because of the margin he had — Nick Harris of the Cowboys website said it would have been good from 72 yards, citing Next Gen Stats — and kicks like this usually only happen at Denver’s high altitude.
Aubrey quickly became a star kicker last season. He made 35 consecutive field goals to start his career, an NFL record, and made 36 of 38 field goals. He was named to the NFL’s first team All-Pro kickers. He also had a distinguished career, having played soccer at Notre Dame instead of football. The Cowboys noticed him in the USFL, signed him, and he became one of the NFL’s best kickers.
Aubrey may not get a chance to match Tucker’s 66-yard field goal attempt during the regular season, but the Cowboys know he can make it.
