Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor has been ruled out for Week 5. The team announced Friday that Taylor, who was in critical condition with a sprained ankle, will officially miss Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Taylor’s injury is the same ankle he has had trouble with in the past, and the running back suffered a similar injury in 2022. After missing several games that season, Taylor injured his ankle again in December, was placed on injured reserve, and underwent surgery. He underwent surgery and ended the season.
According to multiple reports, this ankle injury is not as serious as in previous years, but Taylor’s recovery time will likely be longer than usual given his injury history. According to the Colts, Taylor did not practice this week.
Before the injury, Taylor was off to a very strong start to the season, rushing for 349 yards and four touchdowns in the first four games.
Meanwhile, Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson has been plagued by injuries and was downgraded to questionable on Saturday. Richardson was initially listed as questionable on Friday, but missed practice this week with an oblique injury. Indianapolis likely erred on the side of caution due to his injury history. The second-year quarterback missed most of last season after undergoing shoulder surgery in October.
According to James Boyd of The Athletic, Joe Flacco was seen taking most of the first team’s snaps during Friday’s practice. Flacco is likely to step in on Sunday, as Richardson is currently questionable.
