Gingerbread is a time-honored tradition that makes the holidays even more fun. But while most bakeries stick to dwarf-shaped cookies, the team at Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs is going all out on creating elaborate life-sized gingerbread displays.
And this year is no exception. The pastry team at this venerable luxury hotel created a golf cart entirely out of gingerbread and dark chocolate.
The design reflects the fact that Broadmoor is a premier golf course, with an 18-hole course designed by legendary architect Donald Ross. And in June 2025, the resort will host the 2025 U.S. Senior Open Golf Championship.
The Broadmoor has been welcoming guests to Colorado since 1918. Today, its base includes the main resort as well as several natural experiences such as Cloud Camp, Emerald Valley Ranch, and a fly fishing camp.
A team of more than 42 bakers, led by Executive Pastry Chef Frank Labasse, helped complete the vehicle.
In addition to the golf cart, other scenes were created that included a penguin, an elf with a golf club, rocks, a river, and a bridge. And, of course, Santa Claus is at the wheel of the cart.
They also used an impressive amount of materials, and The Broadmoor listed them on their golf-inspired “Front 9” scorecard.
Hole 1 – 958 lbs of powdered sugar Hole 2 – 475 lbs of flour Hole 3 – 1,801 eggs Hole 4 – 19 lbs of holiday spices Hole 5 – 200 lbs of granulated sugar Hole 6 – 128 lbs of molasses Hole 7 – 6 lbs of salt Hole 8 – 164 lbs dark chocolate
In the past, the Broadmoor’s gingerbread displays have ranged from life-sized trains and chapels to canopied boats and cars.
The golf cart will be on display on the mezzanine floor of the resort’s main building throughout the new year.
