LYNCHBURG, VA – Fresh off a winning streak, the Hornets (4-3-1) will host #20 Washington & Lee (5-1) this Wednesday in a Code Red game on October 2nd.
These two programs are well known to each other and have played each other 34 times all the time. Lynchburg won the series between the two schools 21-7-6. However, the Generals beat Lynchburg in their most recent matchup, winning 3-2 in OT in last season’s ODAC semifinals. However, this game will count as a non-conference contest and will not count toward each team’s respective ODAC records.
Washington & Lee came into this game with great enthusiasm, outscoring their opponents 14-0 along the way and winning their last five games. The Generals have already played two teams in the top 15 this season, with a 1-1 record in those games.
Lynchburg comes into this game with their best brand of ball this season. The Hornets are starting to find their stride on both ends of the field. Goaltender Meredith Bowers was named ODAC Defensive Player of the Week for his second straight shutout game. Lynchburg’s offense has also found its rhythm, averaging two goals per game over the last four games.
The Hornets hope to maintain perfect conditions at Shellenberger Field this season as an enthusiastic crowd watches Code Red.
