Chicago police confirmed that around 3 a.m. Thursday, multiple suspects broke into New Kwik Market in the 8300 block of Kedzie Avenue.
“When we arrived, everything was ruined,” owner Aisha Khan said.
Shop owners Ayesha Khan and Sunny Khan said the thieves stole the ATM, cash from the till and liquor bottles.
The owner said the front door was damaged three months ago but was recently rebuilt.
Surveillance cameras captured the exact moment multiple suspects bypassed a security gate in front of New Quick Market in a vehicle on Thursday, entered the store and stole cash from an ATM.
Shop owners Aisha Khan and Sunny Khan said the thieves stole the ATM, cash from the till and liquor bottles.
“They basically tied the gate and door of my house to a car, ripped it off and completely ruined the fixtures,” Ayesha Khan said. “We can’t keep coming here and repairing it, we can just watch it get ruined right before our eyes and there’s nothing we can do.”
The couple have run the business for nearly 20 years but said they’ve reached a breaking point.
“So our heart and soul is here and to see it ruined like this is really frustrating. It’s hard to do business in Chicago and it makes you wonder how long we’re going to continue with this,” Ayesha Khan said.
The owners said they were growing increasingly worried and had complained to police and city councillors but felt their concerns were not being listened to.
Chicago police said the suspects fled after the robbery in two black SUVs, possibly a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Lexus.
Area 1 detectives are investigating this morning but no one is in custody.
