March 21 marks World Down Syndrome Day, a world of global awareness and celebration that recognizes the achievements and contributions of individuals with Down Syndrome.
In central Oregon, the opportunity was marked by a Cascade Lake Pub fundraiser. There, $1 from every pint sold was directed to the Central Oregon Fault Support Network (CODSN). Nonprofits work to support individuals with disabilities and their families through advocacy, education and community programs.
Beyond fundraising, the event aims to highlight the complete and independent lives of people with Down Syndrome leads.
“I think it’s really important to know when the days are set to celebrate something unique and beautiful for families, and that the community is celebrating with them.”
World Down Syndrome Day is recognized annually on March 21st. This is the date chosen to represent the extra 21st chromosome present in individuals with Down syndrome.
