Cassius, the world’s largest crocodile, has died in captivity in an Australian wildlife reserve.
Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Habitat & Gift Shop posted about Cassius’ death on Facebook.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved companion Cassius,” the post reads. “He was more than just an alligator, he was a valued member of our family and brought joy and friendship to our best friend George for over 37 years.”
According to the post, Cassius’ condition had been deteriorating since October 15th. The habitat also thanked everyone who visited Cassias during his lifetime and “offered kindness along the way.”
According to the BBC, Cassius the saltwater crocodile is thought to be at least 110 years old, but no one knows for sure.
“He was very old and believed to have lived beyond the age of a wild crocodile. Cassius will be greatly missed, but our love and memories of him will forever be in our hearts.” I will remain inside.”
In 2011, Cassius entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest captive alligator at 17 feet long.
