Country music star Carrie Underwood will perform “America the Beautiful” at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, according to a copy of the program obtained by CNN and confirmed by a spokesperson for the inaugural committee. It’s planned.
“I love this country and was honored to be asked to sing at the inauguration and be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood said in a statement to CNN. “I am humbled to answer this call at a time when we all need to come together in a spirit of unity and look to the future.”
Chief Justice John Roberts will administer the presidential oath of office, and Justice Brett Kavanaugh will administer the oath of office to Vice President-elect J.D. Vance.
Trump’s inauguration as the 47th president will be held at the U.S. Capitol on January 20th.
Underwood will be a hot topic at Trump’s inauguration, given the Hollywood blackout throughout Trump’s political career.
Trump has struggled to garner support from major Hollywood stars throughout his first term and the past three elections. Two of the biggest stars who shared the stage with Trump at last year’s Republican National Convention were musician Kid Rock and former WWE wrestler Hulk Hogan. He is far from a superstar like Underwood at the peak of his career.
The Grammy Award-winning artist is no stranger to country music, with numerous platinum hits under his belt, and has garnered attention from mainstream business organizations as well. Underwood is the face of Sunday Night Football and will make his debut in March this year as a judge on ABC’s singing competition show “American Idol,” which he shot to fame after winning in 2005.
Many NFL fans will praise Mr. Underwood for singing at the inauguration, but every time a celebrity aligns with Mr. Trump, he risks alienating left-wing fans and allies in Hollywood.
Underwood kept his politics secret throughout his career. In a statement, she did not mention Mr. Trump by name and remained focused on unifying the country, but Underwood’s decision to publicly align herself with Mr. Trump nevertheless drew attention to all the stars, especially This is a significant statement for a star who is as private as the singer.
Historically, Hollywood has always had close ties to the Democratic Party, but country stars have always been the outliers and tended to be more conservative. In recent years, country music has become more progressive as new singers have joined the genre. In past election cycles, country stars like Mickey Guyton and Maren Morris sided with Vice President Kamala Harris.
