Carlos Rodon will start for the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone also announced that Gerrit Cole will start Game 2 and Clark Schmidt will start Game 3.
Rodon pitched 3 2/3 innings in the Yankees’ Game 2 loss to the Kansas City Royals in the ALDS, allowing four runs and seven hits. He said he learned from the experience of being upset after allowing a home run to Salvador Perez after three scoreless innings.
“I just lost focus a little bit. I didn’t want to give up that run there and I knew my at-bat was important,” Rodon told reporters Sunday. “Looking back, one of the things I did was try to stay focused and channel that energy better.”

Boone also said Rodon would benefit from an extra day of rest before starting Monday.
“He struggled there and got knocked out in the fourth inning in his last at-bat, but I feel like he threw the ball really well in his first big experience,” Boone told The Athletic. spoke through. “Hopefully we can get something out of that game that will allow him to really break through and have the game that we know he’s capable of.”
Cole will pitch in Game 2 on his standard five-day rest, while Schmidt will take seven days off before pitching in Game 3.
Coach Boone said Lewis Gil may pitch in the ALCS after not playing in the ALDS. Unless he emerges as a reliever early in the best-of-seven series, it seems likely that he will play in Game 4.
The Guardians announced that Alex Cobb will be the starter for Game 1. This follows the same rotation that manager Steven Vogt used in the ALDS. Tanner Bibby will likely play in Game 2, and Matthew Boyd will likely start in Game 3.
Game 1 of the ALCS is scheduled for Monday at 7:38 p.m. ET and will be televised on TBS.
