FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals opened the 2024-25 season with a 52-44 home victory over New Richland-Heartland-Ellendale-Geneva on Tuesday night.
“We definitely realized we needed to work on it.” Fairmont women’s basketball head coach Sara Junckermeier said. “These are fundamental skills that will make us even better in the future. Once we identify those things and start talking about them more regularly, that’s what we do consistently. I think it will be.”
Briley Miller led the Cardinals with 8 hits for 13, 29 points, and 6 rebounds. Kennedy Becker had 14 points and five rebounds on 4-of-5 shooting, and Ellie Ortega had seven points and two rebounds. Makayla Lowry added seven points and two rebounds.
The Cardinals’ next game will be against Lake Crystal Welcome Memorial on Dec. 3 at 7:15 p.m.
